Chinese Immersion Camp (Week 5: Stories and Reader's Theater 故事小剧场

Mandarin Chinese Immersion Summer Camp is a joyful, project-based summer learning experience designed to help Novice to Intermediate Mandarin learners grow their Mandarin skills through songs and chants, games, stories, reading, writing, and hands-on activities. Students are grouped by grade band, and each camp group has no more than 10 students, allowing for plenty of individual attention, meaningful participation, and a caring learning environment.

Each week brings a new and exciting theme:

  • Week 1(6/15-6/19): All About Me and Friends (我和朋友)
  • Week 2(6/22-6/26): Food Market (美食市场)
  • Week 3(6/29-7/2): Independence Day Celebration (欢庆独立日)
  • Week 4(7/6-7/10): Travel Brochure (旅游手册)
  • Week 5(7/13-7/17): Stories and Reader's Theater (故事小剧场)(this program)
  • Week 6(7/20-7/24): QD Carnival (夏季游乐会)

Campers will enjoy a balance of whole-group activities, small-group guided reading and writing, partner work, and playful language practice that make the Mandarin learning experience fun and meaningful every day. Each week ends with a special project, giving students a chance to showcase their Mandarin skills in a creative, age-appropriate way in real-life scenarios.

This camp is led and designed by Ms. Min Tang, a GATE-certified Resource Teacher, Mandarin Immersion Program Lead, and District Mentor Teacher with over 10 years of teaching experience at Fletcher Mandarin Language and GATE Academy, the first public Mandarin immersion school in Orange County, California. Her background brings deep expertise in research-based teaching strategies, including GLAD, AVID, and GATE, that create an enriching, student-centered learning environment and support student agency through choice, collaboration, and personalized goal-setting.

Our goal is to create a summer camp where children are excited to learn, supported by caring instruction and collaborative work, and proud of their progress in Mandarin language skills. With small camp groups, engaging weekly themes, and a fun project at the end of each week, students will enjoy a summer full of creativity, friendship, and language growth.
