DISRUPT TO LEARN: USING DISCREPANT EVENTS TO DRIVE ENGAGEMENT, INQUIRY AND DEEP UNDERSTANDING ACROSS CONTENT AREAS
*Act 48 Eligible - Please be sure to bring your PPID Number for the sign in sheet.
This Act 48 professional development session helps educators use discrepant events—unexpected outcomes that challenge student thinking—to increase engagement, curiosity, and deeper learning across content areas.
Participants will explore how cognitive conflict activates attention, reveals misconceptions, and supports meaningful inquiry through prediction, observation, and reflection. Through modeling, reflection, and application, educators will learn how to design standards-aligned discrepant events that promote critical thinking, academic discourse, and student-centered instruction.
Aligned with MTSS, UDL, and the Danielson Framework, this session provides practical strategies to create rigorous, inclusive classrooms where curiosity drives learning and misconceptions become opportunities for growth.
