CV/DV Workshop Series: #3 Trauma Informed De-escalation

Welcome to the third session in our new Community and Domestic Violence Workshop Series! This year, instead of holding one large annual CV/DV training, we’re offering smaller, focused sessions designed for advocates to dive deeper into specific topics. Each session will provide space to workshop ideas and strengthen trauma-informed approaches that support survivors at the intersections of community and domestic violence. “Trauma Informed De-escalation,” is the third session in this series, following "History of Domestic Violence" from February 2026.

Workshop #3: Trauma Informed De-escalation
This session will explore practical, trauma-informed strategies for de-escalating conflict and crisis across both community violence and domestic violence contexts. Participants will build skills to recognize how trauma responses can show up in moments of escalation, and learn how to respond in ways that prioritize safety and autonomy.

Grounded in a survivor-centered and culturally responsive framework, this session will examine how power, control, and environmental stressors influence behavior, particularly for individuals navigating multiple forms of violence. Through real-life scenarios and interactive discussion, participants will practice verbal and non-verbal de-escalation techniques and identify strategies for safety planning in complex situations.

Workshop sessions will be hosted quarterly. Attendance for each session is not required, but suggested. This training is designed for advocates, outreach workers, and professionals working at the intersection of CV and DV who are looking to strengthen their response to crisis while minimizing harm and re-traumatization.

This virtual training is provided for members and IDHS-funded organizations only; and will issues 2 CEUs for counseling or social work at no cost.  Please indicate your desire for CEUs in your registration and later in your evaluation. Please confirm here if your organization is a member of The Network.

A Zoom link will be provided the day before training begins.
