Intermediate Knitting - Level 1: Knitting Your First Sock
This is a learn to knit your first sock class. We will learn how to knit our first pair of plain, cuff down socks, using double pointed needles and learning the heel flap and gusset heel turn method.
Skills Level Needed: Beginner Knitting - Level 3
- Very comfortable with both k and p stitches, and can cast on in any method.
- Know basic increases and decreases.
- Ready to learn how to knit in the round, using double pointed needles.
- Understand how to read a pattern.
Each week will focus on:
- Learn the german twisted cast on and start working our sock legs in the round
- Finish the leg of our sock and learn our heel flap. May start heel turn.
- Finish gusset and start working the foot of our sock.
- Decrease our toe and learn the kitchener stitch to finish our sock!
Please bring:
- 100grams of fingering weight sock yarn (light colours may be easier to see). Get more if you are knitting larger then a size US 10 mens
- One set of five 2.25mm double pointed knitting needles (dpn’s)
- A darning needle
- Stitch markers (optional)
- Scissors
- Measuring tape
- Pencil and note pad (optional)
Some work may need to be completed between classes so you are ready to learn the next stage in the pattern.
