Rope Sewing on a Sewing Machine
Basketeer and experienced rope sewer, Karen Admire of The Mountain Thread Company, will guide you in creating 3 small beginning rope projects using coiled rope basketry techniques on your own sewing machine. Together, we will create a coaster, a small trinket basket, and a shallow basket. You'll learn how to use your specific machine to create basic pieces, and how to use fabric and thread to make them your own. We'll cover rope types, shapes, and the rationale for starting with the round shape, along with any other questions you may have. We'll also troubleshoot any difficulties with individual machines and how to continue your rope sewing journey beyond the course.
Supplies & Sewing Machines
The $20 partial supply fee includes one 10-yard bundle of rope and one glue stick.
A limited number of sewing machines will be available to borrow during class, so participants are encouraged to bring their own machine if possible. If bringing your own, please make sure it is in good working order, has a zigzag stitch, and is strong enough to hem a pair of jeans. (Most machines can sew rope easily!) Please contact us before registering if you plan to use a provided machine to confirm availability.
