Oval Rope Sewing Class

Learn how to sew oval baskets on a sewing machine. Taught by seasoned “Basketeer’ of The Mountain Thread Company, Karen Admire.

You'll have the skills needed to make and scale any oval basket, as well as the skills to make a tote bag! This class is for both beginners, as well as those who have taken our previous beginning rope sewing class (focused on the round shape).

We will make 2 oval baskets with options to personalize them. We'll learn the basics of sewing an oval basket, troubleshooting, and using these new skills for bigger projects.

**A limited number of machines are available for use for those who don't have one, or are not able to travel with one. Please contact us before registering to confirm machine availability.

Supplies to bring to class:

  • Sewing machine with a zigzag stitch, and a regular zigzag foot (the one that comes with every machine)**
  • Denim needle (Schmetz 100/16)
  • Neutral quality thread in cotton 50 weight (quilting thread), and any additional colors matching personal preference. Please pre-wind bobbins ahead of time.
  • Precut fabric strips (¼ to ½”width, any length). Adding fabric is a preference, so don't fret if you don't have any. Instructor will provide some as well.
  • Thread scissors, fabric scissors, and “paper” scissors to cut rope (rope will dull fabric scissors)
  • Seam ripper
  • Measuring implement: hem ruler, fabric tape, etc
  • A few Wonder clips, or similar style clip.
