I own a gun. Now what?

What is the I Own a Gun. Now What? class?

I Own a Gun. Now What? is a range-free, no-live-fire introductory class designed specifically for women who own a firearm and aren't sure what to do next. It is a structured, research-based first experience with your firearm — built around how women's senses actually work, not around a generic training model.

It differs from other classes because we don't start with the shot — we start with everything that surrounds it. Awareness, intuition, safe handling, and the legal framework are taught first, so that when you do get to the range, you can just focus on enjoying learning the shooting process.

Key learning points include firearms nomenclature, the 4 safety rules, safe handling and dry fire with your own firearm, bullet-shaped practice rounds for home practice, threat awareness and pre-incident indicators, airsoft practice (where permitted), and the legal basics of self-defense in Oklahoma — followed by a clear, specific path forward into live fire training when you're ready.

Frequently Asked Questions

Who is this class designed for?

This class is designed for women who own a firearm — or are considering one — and want a structured, judgment-free first step. No experience required. No prior training assumed. If you've never touched your gun since you bought it, or if you've practiced a little but want a solid foundation, this class is for you.

This is NOT a live fire class. Students who are looking for range time or advanced shooting drills should look at our next-level offerings.

How much does the class cost?

Standard: $59

What topics are covered?

  • Firearms nomenclature — parts identification and how your specific firearm works
  • The 4 safety rules — taught with rationale, not just recitation
  • Safe handling, clearing, and dry fire practice with your own firearm
  • Bullet-shaped practice rounds — what they are, how to use them, and where to get them for home practice
  • The two-person confirmation process — turn a worried partner into a training partner
  • Awareness as your first line of defense — threat recognition and pre-incident indicators
  • Airsoft practice — the full experience of firing without live ammunition (where permitted)
  • Legal basics of self-defense — Use of Force, Stand Your Ground, and Castle Doctrine in Oklahoma
  • A clear next step into live fire training when you're ready

What are the class's gear requirements?

  • Your semi-automatic pistol — unloaded, in a case or holster, with no ammunition
  • That's it. We supply eye protection, airsoft equipment, and bullet-shaped practice rounds for the class.

Optional: Bring a notepad if you like to take notes.
