Musical Improv Level 3 - Full Narrative Musical (Sunday, July 12 - Aug 16)

Level 3 Musical Improv: The Musical Narrative
Ready to tell bigger stories through song? Level Three Musical Improv is where everything comes together into a fully improvised musical experience.

In this advanced class, you’ll focus on building and performing cohesive musical narratives with emotional stakes, recurring themes, dynamic characters, and satisfying story arcs. Using the musical instincts, song structure, and scene work developed in Levels One and Two, you’ll learn how to sustain an improvised musical beyond individual songs and scenes into a complete theatrical experience.

This class is all about connecting story and music in real time and discovering how songs can deepen relationships, heighten emotion, reveal character, and move the narrative forward.

In this class, you’ll practice how to:

  • Build compelling musical narratives with clear beginnings, middles, and endings
  • Create recurring themes, motifs, and callbacks that unify a show
  • Transition smoothly between dialogue, scenes, and songs
  • Heighten emotional stakes through music and character relationships
  • Sustain ensemble storytelling over long-form structures
  • Use reprises, group numbers, solos, duets, and finales to support narrative momentum
  • Balance comedy, character, and musicality while staying grounded in story
  • Trust the ensemble to collaboratively create a full improvised musical from scratch

What to Expect

Classes meet once a week for six weeks and combine advanced musical exercises, long-form scene work, narrative structure training, and full musical runs designed to strengthen storytelling instincts and ensemble cohesion.

You’ll spend significant time performing extended musical formats, experimenting with genre and tone, and learning how to make spontaneous musicals feel emotionally satisfying, theatrically grounded, and wildly fun.

The class culminates in a final student showcase featuring fully improvised musical narratives performed live on stage.

If Level One taught you the basics and Level Two strengthened your musical instincts, Level Three teaches you how to create an entire musical world together.

Take the Stage. Tell the Story. Sing the Moment.

All classes meet for 2 hours once per week for 6 weeks followed by a showcase. While enrolled, students can see Comedy Arena shows for FREE.
