Australasian Evolution Society

Welcome to Evolution in the Gong, the Joint Meeting of the Australasian Evolution Society and the Society of Australian Systematic Biologists, to be held at the lush, green University of Wollongong campus from 2–4 December 2026. Nestled between the biodiverse Illawarra Escarpment and the Ocean, Wollongong provides a spectacular setting for the meeting.

We warmly welcome evolutionary and systematic biologists from across Australasia and around the world to this inclusive conference, which will bring these two scientific societies together for the first time.

Conveniently located just 1–1.5 hours by train from Sydney and around 2.5 hours by car (or 3 hours by bus) from Canberra, Wollongong is also serviced by its own airport, making it a highly accessible destination.

Student travel grants from both societies will be announced soon to help support attendance and make the conference accessible to a broad range of participants.
