Cushion printing/applique workshop with Gillian Arnold & Charlotte
Creative Workshop with Gillian Arnold & Charlotte
Join us for a wonderfully relaxed and inspiring full afternoon workshop where you will design, print, and embellish your own beautifully unique appliqué cushion cover.
Running from 12.30pm–4.30pm, this immersive creative session combines surface pattern, fabric collage, and expressive embroidery techniques in a welcoming and sociable environment.
During the first part of the workshop, designer maker Gillian Arnold will guide you through the creative printing and heat transfer printing process. Using hundreds of carefully curated, nature inspired vintage motifs, you will build layered compositions and learn how to create striking printed fabric designs full of colour, texture, and personality.
Later in the afternoon, Charlotte will lead you through the embellishment stage, helping you transform your cushion into a truly one of a kind piece using embroidery techniques. You can choose to work either by hand or with a sewing machine using free motion embroidery.
Free motion embroidery is a wonderfully expressive and freeing technique that allows you to “draw with stitch”, creating texture, movement, and beautifully organic lines across your design. Whether you prefer delicate hand stitching or playful machine embroidery, this stage adds depth, individuality, and character to your finished cushion.
You are very welcome to bring your own sewing machine if you prefer working on a familiar machine, or one can be provided for you on the day.
What you will learn:
• How to compose a balanced and eye catching appliqué design
• Creative fabric printing and collage techniques
• Tips on scale, placement, layering, and visual impact
• Introduction to free motion embroidery and decorative stitching
• Ways to combine print and stitch for richly textured surface design
All materials are provided, including your cushion cover and full access to Gillian’s extensive collection of vintage inspired motifs. Suitable for all abilities — from complete beginners to experienced makers looking for a joyful afternoon of creativity, stitching, conversation, and inspiration.
