IGC 646: How Does Childhood Trauma Impact Brain Development & Learning in K-12 Education?

Instructor: Casey Rekowski

Format: This is an online course that takes place remotely and all coursework is completed asynchronously. There are no zoom sessions. This is a one-week intensive. A full graduate course will be completed in one-week, so please allow ample time to complete assignments during the week.

Course Description: This course is designed for educators interested in learning why students who experience trauma- inducing experiences are more at risk for acting out at school and also dropping out. Course content will explain the impact of adverse childhood events (ACEs) on brain development and give teachers strategies that can help them explore ways that they can make their classrooms trauma sensitive and a safe place for all learners. This course is aligned with the MA State Frameworks.
