This practical training session will focus on the deployment of ECRC’s Current Buster 4 sweep system from a Vessel of Opportunity:
Participants will take part in or observe the following activities:
- Vessel of Opportunity orientation using the McKeil vessel Ecosse
- Pre-deployment safety briefing and Job Safety Analysis
- Loading of the Current Buster 4 system onto the vessel using Ontario Shipyards’ crane support
- Review of deck layout, equipment positioning, and lashing considerations
- Deployment and recovery of the Current Buster 4 sweep system
- On-water operating considerations, including towing, maneuvering, and communication between vessel crew and response personnel
- Demonstration of the system for Hamilton CAER participants from the Ontario Shipyards viewing platform
- Demobilization and offloading of equipment following the deployment
This session is intended to provide hands-on exposure to VOO-based sweep system operations and support continued development of practical response capability for larger-scale marine spill response.
