Sgraffito Vase Workshop, Handbuilding

Sgraffito Vase Workshop

A beginner friendly workshop! In this workshop students will learn how to use slabs of clay to build a vase shape and learn the art of sgraffito. In the first class, students will create the vase. In the second class, students will learn sgraffito. Sgraffito is a decorative technique where you apply a layer of contrasting slip/underglaze over a clay body and carve through it to reveal the base layer. This technique is done on leather-hard clay and then carve away parts of it to create a design.

Minimum age is 16.

NW Ceramics will email students when ceramics are done and ready for pickup. Due to limited storage space, we can only hold pottery for 8 weeks. After 8 weeks (from the date we notify that your pottery is done and ready for pickup) we will have to discard your pieces.
