Scrappy Monsters: Creatures from the Weld Shop
Scrap Monsters: Creatures from the Weld Shop
Ever wonder what lives in the metal scrap pile inside Liberty Arts? In Scrap Monsters, students will transform discarded bits of steel into one-of-a-kind creatures limited only by their imagination.
This fun, beginner-friendly welding class invites participants to dig through the welding studio's collection of curated scrap materials and assemble their own monster, critter, beast, or bizarre creation. Along the way, students will learn the fundamentals of MIG welding, basic fabrication techniques, and creative problem-solving while bringing their designs to life.
Students who wish to incorporate custom shapes or features into their creatures may also have the opportunity to use a plasma torch to cut pieces from sheet steel, with instructor guidance and time permitting.
Whether you arrive with a clear vision or prefer to let the scrap inspire you, the instructor will provide guidance on design, construction, welding techniques, and safe equipment operation throughout the process. No two monsters will be alike, and students are encouraged to embrace experimentation and creativity.
By the end of the class, students will leave with a welded steel creature of their own creation and a new appreciation for the artistic possibilities hidden in the scrap pile.
