FAIRWINDS | SUMMER SAILING CAMP

Adventure. Sailing. Friends. Confidence.

Our Summer Sailing Camps are all about building confidence through time on the water in a fun, relaxed and social environment.

While our Spring and Autumn programmes focus on structured progression in a school environment, summer is about adventure, exploration and learning through doing.

Sailors will continue to work towards their Irish Sailing Level 1 and Level 2 skills, but with a stronger focus on fun challenges, teamwork and adventure afloat.

Over five action-packed days, sailors will develop real sailing skills while enjoying activities such as treasure hunts, navigation challenges, exploring new areas of the lake, and planning voyages to Church Island and Cottage Island for campfires and shore-based adventures.

Rather than simply sailing around a course, sailors will learn how to plan routes, navigate to destinations, make decisions as a crew and put their sailing skills into practice on real adventures.

Throughout the week sailors will:

• Learn to steer and sail a boat
• Explore the lake and local islands
• Plan and navigate short passages
• Learn knots, navigation and weather skills
• Practice rescue and safety techniques
• Take part in treasure hunts, races and sailing challenges
• Build teamwork, confidence and leadership
• Learn how sailors prepare for adventures afloat

Suitable for complete beginners and developing sailors alike. Activities are tailored to the group, ensuring everyone is challenged at the right level while having fun.

This is not a classroom programme. It's hands-on, outdoors and active from the moment we leave the shore.

By the end of the week sailors will be confidently:

• Steering and controlling a sailing boat
• Tacking and gybing
• Rigging and preparing boats
• Working effectively as part of a crew
• Making basic weather and safety decisions

Most importantly, they'll leave with great memories, new friendships and a real sense of achievement. Oh and they'll have the WWS Crew T-shirt to prove it. One T-shirt with every booking.

What to Bring

Come prepared for Irish conditions:

  • Warm outdoor layers
  • Waterproof jacket
  • Old runners or boots with grip
  • Suncream, sun glasses or sun hat
  • Lunch and a drink (please note* energy drinks like RedBull and Monster are banned from WWS courses, it is our experience that the sailors learn more without them)

No wetsuits required — we sail larger keelboats.

There are no changing facilities at the Lake Base, so please arrive dressed to sail.
Toilets are available before and after sessions and at lunchtime.

Bring your own buoyancy aid if you have one. Spares are available.
