Bluegrass Defensive Concepts

The NRA Basic Pistol Shooting Course introduces students to the knowledge, skills, and attitude necessary to own and use a pistol safely. Through this course, the students will learn about pistol parts and operation, ammunition, gun safety, pistol shooting fundamentals, and other pistol shooting activities. The Basic Pistol Course will also help prepare the students for participation in more advanced courses. There is an open-book written exam and a shooting qualification, which we will fully prepare you for. The class also qualifies for the required training for KY-CCW (and other states) permits. 

Note that no ammunition or firearms are allowed in the classroom but don’t worry we will have plenty of time to go over your specific firearm just ask. 

Students will need the following equipment and supplies. Please reach out with any questions:

A handgun in reliable, working condition 

At least 1 magazine

at least 50 rounds of your preferred training ammunition

Appropriate eye protection

Appropriate hearing protection, electronic preferred/recommended 

Fluids, snacks and (working) lunch 

Closed toe shoes, ball cap, high neck shirt, sunscreen, favorite camping/folding chair if desired, and appropriate clothing for the weather   

Pocket sized note pad for taking notes if desired
