Harmony is excited to welcome visiting artist Nadine Booth back to our classroom! Come learn how to convey the ambiance of nature by enticing viewers to step into your landscape by layering various glass forms, applying color, and finding a balance that builds depth and texture. Gain valuable insight into glass placement, torch work, frit stenciling, coldworking, and much more. This master class includes manipulating images for translation into glass, observation exercises, and learning to draw. Dive into the process of kiln techniques, placement of glass stringers, rods, and frit layers that represent a playful balance in nature.
Nadine started working in glass when she moved from her hometown of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania to Hobart, Indiana in 1991. She took a class in stained glass and has been hooked ever since. Now living in Glendale, Arizona, she continues her glass artistry at her home studio, Hidden Glass Studio. In 2012, she was looking for a challenge in fused glass. After a trip to Yellowstone, she began an exploration of self-teaching to develop the makings of nature scenes. The inspirations were endless! After investing countless hours exploring, experimenting, testing, color correcting and developing various techniques, her process called Naturescapes evolved. Each time Nadine creates a new nature panel, she includes more advanced details. Her technique uses one base sheet and adds various forms of glass, torching, coldworking and several kiln sessions, that bring depth and texture to invite the viewer to take a walk into nature.
She has shown her glass art at the Arizona State Fair, the Las Vegas Glass Craft Expo’s Gallery of Excellence and in fine art festivals in Arizona, Colorado, Nevada and California. She is also represented by two select galleries in New York. Nadine’s techniques used in Naturescapes have won multiple awards and numerous commissions for her. She has been invited to teach at various glass studios around the country. She has developed a loyal following of students, some who have taken her classes more than once! Her classes are timed for the students to enjoy a stress-free atmosphere, to have fun, learn various techniques and to leave with a complete finished project. All methods in the Naturescapes process are easily transferrable to any size and any glass COE. Looking back, Nadine is grateful for her years working with glass. It has inspired her creativity and continues to engage her through its endless possibilities for exploring shape, texture, and color. Best of all, it never becomes boring.
