What they will learn: This class is designed to introduce beginning speakers to the fundamentals of Impromptu Speaking, the art of thinking critically and speaking confidently with limited preparation time. Students will learn how to quickly organize their thoughts, develop clear ideas, and deliver engaging speeches in response to a variety of prompts. Throughout the course, students will participate in a combination of interactive lectures, guided exercises, and repeated speaking practice designed to gradually build comfort and confidence. Students will learn foundational impromptu techniques including brainstorming ideas efficiently, creating simple speech structures, developing examples, and delivering organized responses under time constraints.Coaches provide individualized feedback and structured opportunities for improvement to help students strengthen both their speaking ability and confidence.

How it applies to the real world: Impromptu speaking helps students develop quick thinking, adaptability, clear communication, and confidence under pressure. These skills support classroom participation, presentations, interviews, leadership opportunities, and everyday communication.
Deliverable: By the end of the class, students will demonstrate their growth through practice rounds and a final impromptu speaking showcase designed to prepare them for future speech and debate coursework and competition opportunities.
