Free
Robert Levers was county magistrate during the American Revolution. According to local legend, it was he who read the Declaration of Independence on the steps of the Northampton County courthouse on July 8, 1776. This seminar, presented by Dr. Tim Betz of Sigal Museum, explores daily life in the county during the war through his surviving writings. Highlights include the 1780 Register of Enslaved Persons for Northampton County, an incident with a local loyalist, and concerns about violence nearby.
