Pistol Mounted Optic (Red Dot Class) With Guy Coursey- PMO 101
PMO 101: Introduction to the Pistol Mounted Optic
Duration: 2.5 Hours
Prerequisite: Basic handgun marksmanship and safe gun-handling proficiency
Ammunition Required: 175+ Rounds
Instructor: Guy Coursey
Course Description
The Pistol Mounted Optic (PMO) has become one of the most significant advancements in modern handgun shooting, offering increased target focus, improved accuracy, and enhanced performance at speed. However, many shooters transitioning from traditional iron sights struggle with efficiently finding the dot, maintaining visual discipline, and fully utilizing the advantages the optic provides.
PMO 101 is designed specifically for shooters with limited experience using a red dot-equipped pistol or those who have been frustrated by inconsistent performance with their optic. This foundational course introduces the principles, techniques, and mindset necessary to successfully transition from iron sights to a pistol mounted optic.
Students will learn the differences between iron sights and optics, optic selection and setup considerations, proper mounting and maintenance procedures, and the common causes behind "losing the dot." Through a combination of classroom discussion and live-fire exercises, students will develop a repeatable presentation, improve visual processing, and build confidence in using a red dot-equipped handgun.
By the end of the course, students will understand how to efficiently acquire the dot, maintain target focus, and achieve consistent hits from close-range engagements out to 25 yards.
