East Hertfordshire Countryside - RDE
Join us for a 10 mile undulating circular walk from the village of Wadesmill in Hertfordshire, with approximately 800 ft of ascent. Wadesmill was on the Roman Ermine Street, but these days is just off the A10 not far north of Ware, so it is easy to get to by car.
We start walking west along the Hertfordshire Way following the River Rib (a rare chalk stream), passing the ruined tower of a 15th century church. After a short stop by a ford we continue to near the hamlet of Latchford before gradually climbing out of the valley with views over East Hertfordshire countryside. At Colliers End we gradually descend and return to Wadesmill, eventually walking along the interesting steep-sided dry valley of The Bourne. This is a very rural walk through open countryside and woodland, with a number of short ascents and with several points of interest en route.
We will start from the car park of The Feathers Inn - we have agreement to park there as long as some of us stay for an evening meal (the pub is a Chef and Brewer). Please however park at the far end of the car park. The walk will start at 11 am, but you are welcome to join us in the pub for hot drinks from 10.15 am.
