September 2026 CEU: Beyond Survival: Understanding Poverty & Mental Health
This CEU explores the complex relationship between poverty and mental well-being. While individuals may seek support for mental health and substance use challenges, many are simultaneously navigating fragmented systems, financial hardship, and systemic barriers that significantly impact recovery and overall wellness.
This training will examine how poverty extends beyond financial circumstances to influence cognitive, emotional, and physical health. Participants will explore concepts such as scarcity mindset, cognitive load, survival mode, and system navigation fatigue, gaining a deeper understanding of how chronic stress and unmet basic needs affect decision-making, behavior, and engagement with services.
Lastly, the training highlights the critical role of peer supporters as advocates and navigators while emphasizing the importance of boundaries and self-care in peer support work.
