Intro to Painting & Colour mixing
Introduction to Painting & Colour Mixing
Perfect for beginners and anyone wanting to strengthen their painting fundamentals.
Learn the foundations of painting through observation, colour theory, and hands-on practice.
In this beginner-friendly workshop, students will explore how to mix a full range of colours using only the primary colours. Through colour wheel exercises and guided demonstrations, participants will gain confidence in understanding hue, value, and colour relationships.
Students will then apply these skills to an observational still life painting, learning how to accurately see and mix the colours needed to paint a simple object from life.
What You’ll Learn
This workshop takes a step-by-step approach to understanding colour and painting:
• Understanding value through black-and-white exercises
• How light and dark create form and depth
• Exploring how black and white interact with a single colour
• Creating tints by adding white to a colour
• Creating shades by darkening colours
• Mixing and modifying primary colours
• Understanding colour relationships and the colour wheel
• Building a full range of colours using only the primary colours and white
• Applying colour-mixing techniques to an observational still life painting
By the end of the workshop, students will have a solid foundation in colour theory and the confidence to mix colours accurately for their own paintings.
