Art Teacher Workshop Intensive

Join fellow art educators for a three-day ceramics workshop designed specifically for teachers seeking practical support, fresh ideas, and meaningful professional connection.

Led by veteran educator Frank Jacques, who brings more than 35 years of high school teaching experience, this workshop focuses on the real challenges and opportunities that come with teaching ceramics in a classroom setting. Frank's wealth of knowledge, problem-solving strategies, and hands-on approach will provide valuable tools you can immediately bring back to your students.

Day 1: Handbuilding & Surface Design

Focus on handbuilding methods, strong attachments, and surface-design techniques that can be adapted for a wide range of ages and abilities. Discover projects and processes that are engaging, approachable, and successful in the classroom.

Day 2: Wheel Throwing

Explore wheel-throwing techniques and teaching methods that help students build confidence at the wheel. Participants will have dedicated studio time to refine their own skills while discussing effective approaches for guiding student success.

Day 3: Glazes & Finishes

Glazing can be one of the most rewarding—and challenging—parts of the ceramic process. This session will explore glaze application, finishing techniques, common pitfalls, and strategies for managing student expectations while achieving successful outcomes.

A Workshop Built Around Teacher Support

This gathering is more than a technical workshop. It is an opportunity to connect with colleagues who understand the unique joys and challenges of teaching clay. Frank's goal is to create a collaborative environment where educators can ask questions, share experiences, troubleshoot classroom issues, and build lasting professional relationships. We are especially excited to bring together art teachers from across Southern Oregon and Northern California to strengthen our regional arts education community.

As part of the registration process, please let us know what areas of support you are most interested in exploring so Frank can tailor portions of the workshop to participants' needs.

Financial assistance may be available. If cost is a barrier, please reach out—we would love to help make this opportunity accessible.
