Etched Lino with Tabitha Fedden

Discover a new repertoire of painterly mark making for lino prints. Caustic Etching pushes the traditional boundaries of the medium allowing a painterly aesthetic to support the graphic qualities typical of a linocut.

Explore the technique of Caustic Etching on traditional linoleum with Tabitha Fedden. Tabitha has used this technique extensively within her own artistic practice. On this two day course you will be introduced to the subtleties, nuances and variables of caustic etching on lino. Biting into blocks of traditional linoleum with caustic soda paste opens up and degrades the smooth surface of the lino, creating a rough uneven and bitty surface. Combine this with a variety of resists and the results create a wealth of interesting, unpredictable textures with wide tonal ranges to print from.

Ideal for those with some experience of working with lino, looking to develop their vocabulary of mark making.

Basic materials, tools, ink and paper will be provided. Additional materials may be available to buy from the tutor or the art shop next door. We limit our course numbers to 6 - in order for you to get the most from our tutors and the facilities.
