Marine & Shoreline Training
All participants MUST have SDV-BS/MED A3 (or higher) to attend the training.
Day One (Marine Strategies) training will include:
- Vessel operations (procedures, logbooks, dealing with emergencies, maneuvering, navigation, etc.)
- Equipment handling and use (boom, skimmers, pumps, power packs)
- Various strategies for marine oil-spill response
- Safe Work Planning Cycle documentation (Responder Health & Safety, Job Safety Analysis, Field Level Risk Assessment, Guidance Documents, Tactical Operating Procedures)
- Communications
Day Two (Shoreline Training) is designed to familiarize responders with how to effectively clean up and protect a shoreline during a marine oil spill. Participants will learn to deploy and operate shoreline clean-up equipment and systems such as:
- Rope mops
- Shoreline flushing/deluge
- Tar ball recovery
- Decontamination
- Shore seal boom
- Portable, intermediate storage
- Communications systems
In addition to the above systems, there will be an emphasis on Shoreline Clean-up Assessment Technique (SCAT), which will assist in choosing the operational clean-up techniques we deploy.
Appropriate work attire is required.
- Work clothes - pants, work shirt (long-sleeve), work jacket
- CSA-approved safety boots
- General-purpose work gloves
- Safety glasses
- (Optional) hardhat*
- (Optional) PFD or life jacket*
- (Optional) Hearing protection*
*Hardhats, life jackets, and hearing protection will be provided on request when applicable.
Lunch will be provided by ECRC. Please notify us ahead of time with any dietary restrictions or food allergies.
