WGGB Weaving School

The weaving of taquete goes back to the third to fourth century AD. These patterned textiles were woven in wool or wool and linen.Taquete, also call weft-faced compound tabby, is based on a summer and winter threading system but woven without a tabby. The warp has two functions—to determine the pattern placement and to interlace with the weft in tabby order. Taquete can be woven with different colored blocks, the number of blocks determined by the number of shafts available.

Turned taquete (a taquete draft turned 90 degrees) cloth can be firm or smooth and supple depending on yarns and sett used. Designs use two or more warp colors and emphasize the warp yarn. The structure is easy to weave, using one shuttle and requiring only the usual number of treadles.

Come learn about this structure, choose some colors and, using our Wolf Pup loom, weave a laptop case with 5/2 cotton. We will use the final class to sew the case together.
