Level 5 - Physical Computing with micro:bit

Foster a "Maker" Mindset. Connect to the World.

Wednesday, 6:00 - 7:30 PM CST

This course provides students with a comprehensive introduction to the principles of physical computing, a field where software interacts with the physical environment. Students will explore the capabilities of the micro: bit and learn how to use its sensors to collect data from the real world, control outputs such as lights and sounds, and utilize its programming features.

Course Goals

  • Learn the fundamental concepts of electronics: Understand the basic principles, including voltage, current, resistance, and circuit design. Explore components such as resistors, capacitors, and transistors, and learn how they interact within electronic systems.
  • Develop programming skills with MicroPython: Learn the syntax and concepts necessary to write effective code for Internet of Things (IoT) projects, emphasizing best coding practices.
  • Create interactive physical systems that mimic real-world applications: Design and build projects that replicate real-world functionalities, such as sensor-based systems and automated devices. This hands-on approach will help you bridge the gap between theory and practical implementation.
  • Implement the engineering design process: Learn how to apply the process to enhance the functionality and reliability of projects through evaluation and redesign.
