Introduction to Xylazine Webinar
Fri, Jul 24, 2026, 11:30 AM – 12:30 PM EDT
This webinar will provide an introductory overview of xylazine (also known as "tranq"), as an emerging contaminant of the illicit drug supply in Florida and Palm Beach County. As the prevalence of Xylazine continues to grow, there is an increasing need for knowledge and awareness of this emerging trend, as well as strategies to reduce harms associated with xylazine use, among those who work with people who use drugs (PWUD). This training has been revised and updated to include information about another emerging contaminant, Medetomidine. This virtual training aims to address this need by providing education on pertinent topics such as:
- What is xylazine?
- How prevalent is xylazine in the illicit drug supply?
- Responding to xylazine and medetomidine involved opioid overdoses
- Recognizing wounds resulting from xylazine use
- Providing care and first aid for xylazine wounds
- Strategies to reduce harms associated with xylazine use
