WORKSHOP #1: JULY 28th - 6:00 to 8:30 PM (TUESDAY, Live ONLINE)

🧠 ZERO to THREE The Growing Brain - UNIT 1: The Basics

ONLINE Live 2.5-hour PD Workshop: Learn how brain connections are formed through everyday interactions and experiences.

  • Be introduced to how different regions of the brain—responsible for senses, emotions, memory, thinking, and planning—become interconnected and develop from the "bottom-up" and "back to front"
  • Discuss how this knowledge can change how we understand and respond to challenging behaviors in young children.
  • Explore how this promotes healthy attachment, encourages creative exploration, and fosters problem-solving and thinking skills.

This workshop helps educators and caregivers see everyday behaviors and age & stages through the lens of brain development- offering approaches promoting healthy attachment relationships and early brain growth and development supporting every child’s potential.

Facilitated by Susanne Harach-Vatne a ZERO to THREE – Certified Growing Brain Trainer – Birth to Age 5, and ZERO to THREE Certified Critical Competencies Trainer for Infant & Toddler Educators

It is recommeneded to complete Unit 1, before Units 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, and 7.

WORKSHOP #2: AUGUST 12th - 6:00 to 8:30 PM (WEDNESDAY, Live ONLINE)

 🍁Sport for LIfe Canada: Physical Activity and Physical Literacy in the Early Years"

ONLINE Live 2.5-hour PD Workshop – GROW your knowledge about physical literacy and physical activity to use in the everyday experiences and work of caring for and promoting the healthy development of children at the earliest stages of development. Developed by the experts at Sport for Life Canada!  

This workshop focuses on providing early years staff (front-line Early Childhood Education staff, supervisors, managers) and parents with an increased understanding of physical literacy development in young children (0 to 5 years). Participants will learn what physical literacy is and why it is important to develop in young children, understand the relationship between brain development and physical literacy and learn how relationships, environment, activities, and equipment can support physical literacy development. 

Learning Objectives:
  • Describe key concepts such as active play, fundamental movement skills, risky/adventurous play and physical literacy.
  • Examine the critical role early years play in the future health and physical literacy of a child.
  • Identify concepts and activities that support active play in the early years.                                        
  • Review educational tools for parents which highlight the important role of active play on a child’s overall development           
  • Gather information that can be applied to increase the capacity of managers and staff to develop policies, practices and environments.

🧠 ZERO to THREE The Growing Brain - UNIT 6: Unstanding Behaviors

ONLINE Live 2.5-hour PD Workshop – Learn about key factors that influence behavior and effective strategies to address behaviors that challenge

Learning Objectives:  

  • Understand the root causes of challenging behaviors and talk about effective strategies to address them.
  • Identify the influence of temperament, the age and stage in development, and how the environment can affect a child's behavior.
  • Learn about growing connections between areas of the brain and how this is expressed through behavior.
