Poetry Exchange
Come join us for five relaxed sessions of sharing your favorite short poems— and be enriched in the process. We'll read our chosen poems aloud to one another and explain why we selected them; class members will have the opportunity to ask questions, share observations, and thus get to know each other in unexpected ways. No poetry experience is required—just curiosity and a willingness to bring a few short poems to share. We'll enjoy the pleasure of language in a welcoming, supportive group.
Session 1: Poems We Love
Participants bring a poem that has meant something to them and read it aloud. Talk about what draws them to it. Class members will have an opportunity to ask questions and make comments.
Session 2: Memory
Bring a few poems about memory, family, or personal experience.
Session 3: The Poetry of Everyday Life
Explore poems about ordinary moments—walking, cooking, friendship, weather.
Session 4: Participants’ Choice
Bring in a poem using the genre, format and subject of your choice.
Session 5: Celebration and Sharing
Participants bring and read a favorite poem from the class. End with reflections.
Students will choose a poem in advance of each class and email the poem to the instructors who will compile them and send them to the class. No books or other reading materials are required.
Students will be asked to send a short poem that they love to the instructors. The instructors will send them out in advance.
