Experimental and Breakdown Screen Printing: Creating Colourful, Textural Prints with Jeanette Newell

Experimental and Breakdown Screen Printing: Creating Colourful, Textural Prints

Breakdown screen printing is an experimental, organic process for creating unique prints on fabric and paper. It produces vibrant colours, rich textures and beautifully distressed marks. Enjoy the surprise, as each print reveals its own unique character.

Using thickened dyes, you'll create textures and imagery on a screen with everyday materials, such as string, and natural objects, including leaves. You'll also explore a range of additional textural print techniques to enrich your designs.

At the end of the day, you'll take your prints home to rinse and dry. They can then be used for sewing, embroidery, mixed media and art projects, or developed further through additional print or digital design.

Suitable for all levels of experience.

Jeanette is a Textile artist and designer with an MA in Textile Design, specialising in print, dye and embroidery. She is a qualified teacher (PCET), and is a lecturer in art, design and fashion at a local FE college.
