Basic Nib Care & Tuning Workshop (Singapore International Pen Show 2026) - Learn Basic Nib Work yourself from beginner

Class Max Size: 15

Do you want to learn how to diagnose and smooth problem nibs? Learn how to fix simple problems and decide when to seek professional help. Learn from Sunny Koh, a Singapore-based practicing nib worker trained by Richard Binder (2013) and Nathan Tardif (2015), co-founder of Straits Pen LLP.

No prior nib-working knowledge is needed—you just need to know fountain pen basics.

  • Learn how a pen and nib work
  • How to use a loupe for diagnosing problems
  • Understand the perfect nib geometry
  • Testing the pen ink flow using Japanese techniques
  • Tine alignment and flow adjustment
  • Nib smoothing using the Binderize Method

Participants will get a professional kit with long-lasting supplies that they can use for many years:

  • Wing Sung 3001A Demonstrator with Pilot-Style Steel Nib (Interchangeable with Kaküno/Prera/78G)
  • 2 Additional Wing Sung Pilot-Style Nibs (1 misaligned)
  • Chinese Jewellery Loupe
  • Sample Vial of Ink (Note: Nib work will contaminate ink)

  • Lapping Film (1 Micron Green, 0.3 Micron White) — Standard nib and fiber-optic working size
