About the course

This refresher course is for existing Designated Safeguarding Leads. The session revisits key responsibilities of the DSL role, highlights recent changes to legislation, guidance and local safeguarding arrangements. It supports DSLs to remain confident in leading safeguarding practice, information sharing and multi-agency working within their organisation.

Audience

This course is suitable for anyone who holds a Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) role, or who has responsibility for safeguarding leadership within their organisation, working with children and/or adults at risk.

Aim

To provide Designated Safeguarding Leads with an update on changes to safeguarding legislation, guidance and best practice, while reinforcing key responsibilities and expectations of the DSL role.

Learning outcomes

By the end of the course participants should be able to:

  • Summarise key updates to safeguarding legislation, and local procedures relevant to the role of the DSL.
  • Recognise current and emerging risks to children, young people and adults at risk .
  • Apply the principles of information sharing under article 4,5 and 28 of the Children and Young People (Jersey) Law 2022 Share information confidently and lawfully.
  • Use Solution Focused procedures to resolve professional difference.
