Every student needs time for just-right practice during math class. Responding to individual needs within the math block can often feel difficult and unsustainable. Math Menu is a workshop-model approach to providing targeted instruction and support within a Multi-Tiered System of Supports. Math menu is a structure that allows educators to challenge all students with personalized goals and offerings. In this cohort, educators build pedagogical knowledge while exploring the critical elements of a successful Math Menu practice: purposeful offerings, choice and independence, and targeted small group instruction. Finally, we will examine the ways in which leveraging a math menu structure can allow for more meaningful collaboration between specialists (special educators and interventionists) and general educators. Together, these techniques make differentiation manageable, strengthen mathematical development for all learners, and ensure that students with exceptional and diverse needs are fully supported within the shared work of both educators.

This cohort is open to participants brand new to Math Menu and to those who are looking to refine their practices. 

Participants will:

• Examine beliefs about differentiation and inclusion in the math classroom.
• Gain deeper understanding in how the menu model provides a structure for differentiation, ongoing formative assessment, and individualized instruction based on student need.
• Plan a Math Menu intervention practice that fosters student independence and creates space for small group instruction.
• Leverage collaboration with an instructional team to improve access and differentiation for all learners.
• Approach small group instruction as a continuous cycle of goal setting informed by ongoing progress monitoring
• Move from data to action, using the ALN Work Sort Protocol and formative assessment to plan differentiated Math Menu offerings.
