Additive Reasoning Day 3 VIRTUAL Workshop

Additive reasoning enables students to progress from basic counting to decomposing numbers, analyzing numerical relationships, and combining and separating quantities. These skills are foundational for the more advanced reasoning that follows.

This workshop is part of our math content series, which builds strong pedagogical skills while deepening content knowledge, using the High Leverage Concepts maps and progressions as a guide. Educators learn high-impact teaching strategies that develop conceptual understanding within additive reasoning. Participants are not required to attend all three days, but attending the full series is strongly encouraged.

Part 3: Operating with Large Magnitude Numbers

Participants will:

  • Investigate and analyze quantitative relationships through the lens of additive reasoning and the relationship between addition and subtraction
  • Study the importance of units and base ten reasoning
  • Relate critical fact strategies to more complex numbers
  • Engage with models that support sense-making for subtraction
  • Investigate the constant difference strategy
  • Participate in and plan for subtraction opportunities throughout a structured math block
  • Engage with a variety of problem situations across a range of numbers

You will receive a Zoom link the day before the event. Please contact ashleymarlow@alllearnersnetwork.com with any questions.
