Slow Stitching Workshop
Saturday, August 8, 2pm — 4pm
Workshop with artists: Helen Geglio, Pat DaRiff and Carol L. Myers
Adult workshop, ages 14 and up welcome

Rediscover the pleasure of pulling a threaded needle through layers of cloth. Hand stitching can be used to make marks, define texture and create a rich and visually interesting surface design. We’ll use materials we already have—the textile “keepings” of everyday life, to explore the possibilities of sewing mindfully by hand. The goal of this experimental afternoon journey is to enjoy hand stitching together--and by slowing down and working by hand, we may find a new path to well-being along the way.

No previous experience necessary!

Supplies will be on hand, but you may want to bring these things:

Materials List:

Scissors (embroidery snips)
An assortment of threads and floss, any type or color
An assortment of needles
Quilting pins
Small bits and pieces of fabrics, trims and other textile keepings (a gallon-size plastic zip bag is plenty)
Embroidery hoop, thimble, needle threader (if you use these)
Small found objects (buttons, beads etc.)

This class is free, made possible by the South Haven Community Foundation. Pre-registration is recommended, but not required.
