Cozy Zine night at Scarlet Letter Books!
We are sipping tea from the self-serve bar & creating our own small paper books!

Short history lesson: Zines (pronounced "zeen") are small, self-published booklets that people create to share their ideas, artwork, stories, or opinions. They grew out of science fiction fan magazines in the 1930s, but became especially popular during the punk movement of the 1970s and 1980s, when people wanted an inexpensive way to express themselves. Most zines were photocopied by hand, folded, stapled together, and shared with friends or sold at local events. Because anyone can make one, zines have always been a way for voices and communities that are often overlooked to tell their own stories. Today, zines are still popular with artists, writers, activists, and hobbyists who enjoy creating something personal and completely their own. What will you put in your zine? Poetry? A short story? Illustrations?

During this event, you will learn how to fold a zine and how to go about decorating it! We will be making 8 page zines and you will have access to a variety of materials to bring your zine to life! We have magazines for cutting, mark making tools, stickers, colored pencils and more! We will be going over how to produce copies of your zine but we will not have access to a copier to copy them on site.
