Fashion Runway Production (FRP): Where Waste Becomes Wonder

For almost a decade, this has been the heartbeat of Columbus Fashion Academy — our flagship program where young designers don't just make clothes, they transform them.

There are no fabric bolts here. No blank slates. Every piece in FRP starts with a story: a beloved shirt that's outgrown its owner, a forgotten dress pulled from our Archive Closet, scraps that most people would toss. Students learn to see potential where others see waste — and that shift in perspective is the whole point.

Schedule: Saturdays, 11:30 AM–1:00 PM
Duration: 6 weeks — begins October 17, 2026
Ages: 5th grade and older
Location: Dear Garment House — 1217 Grandview Avenue, Grandview Heights
Investment: $425

How it works:

  • Bring an item from your own closet to alter, mend, or completely reimagine
  • Or dig through our curated Archive Closet of pre-loved pieces, waiting for a second life
  • Learn real garment construction, alteration, and upcycling techniques — the same skills used by working designers
  • Work exclusively with what already exists: fabric scraps, secondhand finds, and the raw material of imagination

The moment it all comes together:
On December 2nd, students are invited to walk their finished designs down the runway at the Clintonville Candlelight Luncheon — a real audience, real lights, real pride. It's the moment a mended hem or a reworked hand-me-down becomes a runway statement, and a student sees, maybe for the first time, that they are a fashion artist.

This is sustainable fashion education in its truest form: hands-on, resourceful, and proof that artistic freedom doesn't require anything new — just courage, creativity, and a willingness to transform what's already in front of you.

Wear what you love. Transform waste into wonder.
