In Sketch Comedy Writing, you'll learn how to turn everyday observations, absurd premises, and "what if?" ideas into fully realized comedy sketches. Whether your goal is to write the next great parody, create unforgettable characters, or simply make people laugh, this class will give you the tools to bring your ideas to life.
Together, we'll explore the fundamentals of sketch writing from generating ideas and building strong comedic premises to writing complete sketches and discovering how to make the funniest moments even funnier. Along the way, you'll learn how to give and receive constructive feedback in a supportive, collaborative environment where everyone's creativity is encouraged.
Whether you're brand new to sketch writing or looking to strengthen your fundamentals, this class is designed to help you find your comedic voice and develop the confidence to put your ideas on the page.
In this course, you'll:
- Generate original sketch ideas from simple premises
- Learn proven sketch structures and comedy writing techniques
- Create memorable characters and comedic situations
- Discover how to identify and heighten the funniest ideas
- Receive constructive feedback from instructors and classmates
- Write multiple original sketches throughout the course
Classes meet once a week for two hours over six weeks.
While enrolled, you'll also receive FREE admission to Comedy Arena shows, giving you the opportunity to see live comedy, study different comedic styles, and find inspiration for your own writing.
PRE-REQ: None! No previous comedy writing experience is necessary.
