What is this course?

Your weapon is useless if you can’t get it into the fight, and getting it into the fight is a hell of a lot harder than most people think.

There’s a massive difference between a clean draw on the flat range… and trying to access your weapon while someone is already on top, fighting hard to take your life.

Most training never addresses that reality. This course does.

We’re building a practical, wrestling-based strategy to stabilize the clinch under pressure, then focus on reliable In-Fight Weapon Access(IFWA) to resolve it.

How do I know it works?

Everything gets pressure-tested in force-on-force scenarios with marking rounds, so YOU leave knowing the skills WILL hold up when it counts.

Is this different than the last one?

This iteration of IFWA is different.

If you’ve trained with us before, the strategy will feel familiar — but the techniques are different.

We'll use content we normally reserve for closed, extended government courses and don’t have time to cover during EWO or ECQC.

What do I need?

You’ll need a mouth guard, groin protection, and eye pro.

You should wear athletic clothing that you’re okay with stretching or tearing, because clothing grips are encouraged.

You can bring your own Training weapons, but we have plenty.

What does the day look like?

We’ll have short breaks, an hour for lunch, and an optional open mat if you want to do some sport jiu-jitsu during lunch.

You will develop:

• An operating system based on pressure, posture, and position
• Four fundamental attachments to gain or deny the inside position
• How to stabilize the clinch in a weapons environment
• How to resolve the clinch:
  • Plan A: Escape safely
  • Plan B: Control and dominate with tie-ups
• In-Fight Weapon Access (IFWA) with both gun and knife

WHO is doing the instruction?

I'm Brian Frias. I was a Marine for 14 years, worked as a cop and SWAT officer for 8 years in San Diego, and hold a BJJ black belt from ATOS HQ after training with the best in the world for a decade;

I travel the country teaching self-defense under the Shivworks banner, a training collective that spans 25 years of experience.

I have instructed four branches of the military, 4 three letter federal agencies, 50+ state/local law enforcement agencies, and thousands of regular people across 37 states.

I have been forced to use much of this curriculum to make it home during real-world operations, and I have feedback from those still on the job who rely on this training every day.

So we know what works and what doesn't.

Sign-up and cancellations

A Shivworks course is a significant investment of time and money – not only for the participant but also for the hosts and the instructors. Courses fill fast, and unexpected cancellations greatly strain our niche bespoke program. Therefore, we have a strict refund policy for every course. If you have enrolled in a class and later cannot make it, please get in touch with us immediately.

**Deposits are not refundable**

More than 30 Days Before Class

If a student cancels more than 30 days before class, we will refund that student’s tuition in full. Minus and deposit.

30 Days Before Class

If a student cancels anywhere between eight and thirty days before class, that student’s tuition is not refundable. However, the tuition can be applied to another Shivworks class. This tuition credit must be used within 18 months of the original class date, or it is forfeited.

 10 days Before Class

If a student cancels 10 days (or less) before a class, that student’s tuition in forfeited and cannot be applied to any other class.

 Shivworks Cancellations: If we have to cancel a class for any reason, all students enrolled in that class will receive full refunds.
