Introduction To Colored Pencils (two-session class)

In a two-session class, learn the basic techniques of rendering the "grainy" method with colored pencils. Layering and blending exercises will lead to simple renditions of fruit still life. Discover the convenience of working anywhere and the meditative quality of the experience. Color theory will be included.

Part 1 will meet Saturday, September 26, 2-4pm. Part 2 will meet the following Saturday, October 3, 2-4pm.

Students responsible for their own materials:

Supply List

  • 1 Box Colored Pencils, Preferably Berol Prisma Colors - thick lead- box of 24 pencils, (Box of 12 optional)
  • 1 Sketch Pad, Minimum size, 9x12", plain white drawing paper, mat finish. Recycled OK.
  • 1 kneaded eraser
  • 1 2H pencil 
  • 1 hand-held small metal pencil sharpener
  • Optional, but helpful: 1 hand-held small metal pencil sharpener; round jar lid, about 3" diameter; sandpaper block
  • All supplies available at Plaza Art Supply Company in the back of Federal Plaza on Rockville Pike.
