Written Communication Series: Why Teach Writing Now?

Fri, Sep 11, 2026, 12:00 – 1:30 PM EDT
Faculty Hub - Third Floor of Boatwright Library

This is the first of three independent Friday sessions in this series; attending any one satisfies the Written Communication Integrated Focus Area (IFWC) development requirement.

The academic essay has long been the standard means of assessing student learning in a wide variety of college courses. In an age of LLMs, is it still relevant? In this session we will review the IFWC learning outcomes, reflect on our own learning goals for our courses, and discuss the ways writing is working (or not working) in our classrooms.

Lunch will be provided!
