Join us for six weeks of exercises, games, and scene work exploring the fundamentals of sketch acting and comedic performance. We’ll learn how to approach a character, make strong acting choices, and bring a sketch to life while working as an ensemble.
A big part of sketch acting is learning how to step into a point of view that may be completely different from your own. We’ll explore how to find empathy and understanding for characters you may have never encountered, while using observation and imagination to create something authentic and funny.
You’ll also learn how to use your own experience as an actor. The people you’ve met, places you’ve been, and emotions you understand can all become tools for building a character, even when the character is nothing like you. We’ll explore how to take what you already know and transform it into something new.
Improv will be woven throughout the class as a tool for building confidence, trusting your instincts, making bold choices, and becoming more comfortable with your scene partners. Sketch and improv go hand in hand, and these skills can help you become a more confident and versatile performer.
Whether you’re interested in performing sketch comedy, want to become more comfortable acting in front of others, or simply want to try something new and meet some people, this class is for you.
