Description:

Together we’ll design and weave a log cabin scarf that uses a beautiful luxury yarn. Are you tired of classes that leave you with lots of samples you don’t really know what to do with, out of yarn you weren’t really a fan of? With this class, I’m trying something a little different. We’ll use a beautiful luxury yarn spun from your choice of merino wool or pima cotton, that was kettle dyed to make beautiful mixed shades of colors. You’ll finish the class with a completed scarf you can be proud to wear or give as a gift.

This class will also cover how to use knitting yarn for weaving, what to look for in yarns when you’re browsing in a knitting store, and how to turn skeins of yarn into something that’s easy to weave from. If you’ve ever been intimidated when shopping for yarn, or are craving a more in-depth discussion on fibers and spin types, this class is a great place to bring your questions!

The materials fee for this class ($30) is a little higher because of the quality of yarn we’ll be using. I’ve designed this project to be perfect for Malabrigo Rios (superwash merino) or Malabrigo Verano (pima cotton) yarns. Malabrigo Yarns are famous among knitters for being beautifully dyed and a pleasure to handle. You’ll get two skeins of yarn from me in your choice of colors. If this presents a hardship, or if you would like to provide your own yarn for the class please contact me! It won’t be a problem, I just want to make sure that you’re set up for success and getting the results you want.

• This class is suitable for beginning and intermediate weavers. We will go over warping the loom together, but students should already be familiar with the fundamentals of rigid heddle weaving.

• Students must bring a rigid heddle loom with a 7.5 or 8-dent heddle to this class, along with all of its accessories. Accessories should include a sley hook, stick shuttles, warping pegs, and table clamps.
• There are a limited number of guild owned rigid heddle looms that are available on a first come, first served basis.
• If you need to borrow a guild loom, specify that on your registration form. Borrowed looms may be taken home for up to two weeks after the class. Non-members who borrow a loom must provide a deposit of $50 cash or check due at the first session. The deposit will be refunded after the return of the loom.
• If you are not sure if your loom will work for the class, or if you are contemplating buying a new loom prior to taking this class, you can contact the Instructor (kelly@kellywoveit.com) for advice on what looms might work best for you.

Please bring a lunch or snack if you would like. Access to a refrigerator and microwave are available in the building.
