TOTAL BEGINNER GUITAR IN OPEN TUNING

Course Prerequisite: None

6 Sessions

This class is for teachers, paras and specialists who may have little or no musical experience, or who want to learn to play in this beautiful tuning and teach it to students. Our approach is much easier than learning to play or teach guitar in standard tuning. The method is developmental, ergonomic, and easy on the fingers. We’ll go slowly and help you develop essential musical awareness and skills. You will learn to sing, strum and play easy songs for learning with three chords in our special Open Tuning on guitar. This course does not cover ukulele.

This course is taught in Open G Tuning for the ease of learning to strum and play simplified chords. It will also help you learn to sing tunefully by matching your voice with notes on the guitar. You will learn to strum a steady beat, sing songs while strumming, and learn to play and change between OFF and ON finger positions. You will begin to learn 3 easy chords, and to sing familiar songs you can share with your students. Your faculty trainer will model techniques for teaching and leading hands-on singing, songwriting, and strumming with your students in the same ways you are learning.

If you’ve already taken some ukulele courses, you will find guitar a wonderful complement. It is a larger instrument that gives you more strings and lovely bass notes to work with, more volume for song-leading groups of students, and a bigger instrument to hug. Your students who already play guitar will love having one to share at school each day.

All classes in this series will be taught from 7-8pm PT / 8-9pm MT / 9-10pm CT / 10-11pm ET
