Description
In the class students will explore a magical 4-shaft weave structure called doubleweave overshot (also known as complementary plain weave or overshot patterned doubleweave). This structure creates reversible fabric of two interlocking layers of plain weave cloth with seemingly impossibly complex patterns on 4 harnesses. We will explore how to draft these patterns using the computer. Then students will select one of 3 drafts to weave, choose two colors of pearl cotton for their warp, measure their warp, set up their looms and weave 6 mug mats.
Prerequisites
- Students should be comfortable warping a floor loom independently although help will be provided as needed.
Materials to be provided by/additional instructions for students
- Bring a lunch to each meeting. Access to a refrigerator and microwave are available in the building.
- Bring pencil and paper for taking notes.
- The guild will provide a limited number of color choices for warp and weft, but if you have 5/2 pearl cotton at home that you would like to use feel free to bring them.
- This is a two-shuttle weave; bring your own shuttles if you like.
Materials/Equipment Provided by Triangle Weavers
All yarns and equipment needed for class will be provided by the guild, including a multi-shaft floor loom and shuttles.
