Improv Embassy Theatre Company

Put pen to paper and get your ideas flowing in a supportive, low-pressure environment. In this 8-week course, you’ll learn the foundations of sketch writing, explore tools for idea generation, and hear your work out loud through in-class readings. You'll participate in 2-3 writers room sessions over the course of the term where your work will be read out loud. 

Classes include a mix of writing exercises, group discussion, instructor feedback, and light homework to help you build confidence and momentum. This course guides you through the fundamentals of sketch comedy from idea spark to finished piece. You’ll explore comedy structures, character building, and collaboration as you polish original sketches. By the end of the course, you’ll have a stronger understanding of sketch structure and a solid foundation to keep writing on your own.

Perfect for beginners and a great refresher for anyone looking to reconnect with sketch comedy.

Prerequisite: No course prerequisites. Ages 18 yrs+ 

Please bring a notebook and pen or a laptop to class to fully participate in the exercises.
