Basic (Emergency) First Aid with CPR-C/AED
Basic First Aid with CPR-C/AED
Formerly known as Emergency First Aid, Basic First Aid with CPR-C/AED is a one-day Canadian Red Cross course covering the essential skills needed to respond to common emergencies at work, at home, and in the community.
First aid courses are not automatically recognized for workplace use simply because they provide a certificate. This Canadian Red Cross course meets WorkSafeBC occupational first aid requirements, so participants can be confident they are receiving recognized certification, that reflects current industry best practices, rather than training that may not satisfy their employer’s legal requirements.
Training is hands-on and scenario-based, emphasizing practical skills, sound decision-making, and effective action rather than passive learning.
What You Will Learn
During this course, you will learn how to:
- Recognize and respond to emergencies using the Check–Call–Care approach
- Assess an ill or injured person and provide appropriate care
- Recognize and respond to breathing and circulation emergencies
- Respond to choking in adults, children, and babies
- Perform CPR on adults, children, and babies
- Use an automated external defibrillator (AED)
- Recognize and respond to common medical emergencies
- Control severe bleeding and care for minor wounds

Important Attendance Information
Doors open at 8:20 a.m. Please plan your journey so that you are ready to enter the classroom when the doors open, to allow time for registration and settling in. The course begins promptly at 8:30 a.m. Late arrivals cannot be admitted because participants must attend and participate in the entire course. Anyone arriving after instruction has begun will be turned away and will not receive a refund.
Physical Participation Requirements
This is a practical course. Students will be required to kneel, lie on the floor, and perform first aid skills during training and evaluation. Please wear comfortable clothing and (clean) footwear that allows you to move freely and protects your knees; shorts are not recommended.
Successful completion of the CPR component requires participants to demonstrate effective chest compressions continuously for two minutes.
If a disability, injury, or other limitation may affect your participation, please contact us before booking so that we can discuss possible accommodations. Certification can only be issued when all required skills and performance criteria have been successfully demonstrated.
Manuals, Food and Refreshments
Training manuals will be available for reference during the course, and participants will receive access to a digital copy. Printed manuals to take home may be purchased for $10 and must be added to your booking before checkout.
Food and beverages are not provided. Please bring or arrange your own lunch, drinks, and refreshments.
Learning Support and Accommodations
We want learners to be assessed on their first aid knowledge and skills, not disadvantaged by literacy difficulties, a learning disability, or because English is an additional language.
If you may need learning support, please contact Emergency Edge before the course so that we can discuss appropriate accommodations confidentially.
Courses are delivered in English, and participants must be able to understand safety instructions, communicate during practical scenarios, and demonstrate the required knowledge and skills.
