Batik Workshop: People for the Resistance until Resistance for the People
Using the traditional craft of batik, we will explore the slow, meditative process of wax-resist textile making as a practice of reflection, resilience, and collective care. Together, we'll learn the fundamentals of batik while considering how making with our hands can become a way to process fear, cultivate patience, and strengthen our connection to ourselves and one another. Through conversation and shared practice, we'll examine how textile traditions carry histories of resistance, cultural memory, and solidarity and how creative practice can help us imagine new possibilities for collective liberation. Designed to welcome and celebrate the perspectives of BIPOC folx, we invite anyone who identifies as BIPOC to enroll. All supplies will be provided.
This workshop meets at The Design Gym, 7 Ramsey St in Upham's Corner.
